The Okavango Delta
As the world's largest inland delta, the Okavango covers over 15,000km (5700 sq miles) of lush verdant wetland. This unique area contains an incredible 95% of all surface water in Botswana and is one of Africa's prime tourist destinations. Surrounded by the parched Kalahari, this emerald jewel is an immense oasis fed by the flow of the mighty Okavango River which, unlike every other major river in the world, never reaches the sea but dies in the desert sand in the northern Botswana.
Moremi Game Reserve
Today Moremi is described as one of the most beautiful and varied reserves in Africa, with an unprecedented concentration of wildlife. But it has not always been so. By the end of the 19th century the wildlife in the southern Okavango had been practically exterminated by the rinderpest epidemic and it took their toll and by the 1960s much of the wildlife in this area had again been decimated. The reserve was proclaimed on 15 March 1963 and was named after Chief Moremi III.

South Gate Camp Site
This camp site is set in a clean open, but grassless area under tall mopane trees, right at the Maqwee Gate. With a couple of ablution blocks equipped with boilers for hot water, it is an ideal site for those arriving at the gate late in the afternoon.

North Gate Camp Site
North Gate camp site, some 30km (18miles) north of Maqwee, is situated under shady trees directly after the North Gate bridge on the banks of the river Khwai' is a long picturesque structure made entirely of rattly mopane poles. The usual camping facilities are here, while there are one or two small rural stores in Khwai village. All the loop roads that skirt the river banks offer the chance of rewarding elephant sightings.
